Our initial concept is to make a short film about a writer's struggle to write a screenplay. Slow pacing and everyday environments will create a feeling of entrapment in the character's situation and reflect the hard work necessary in the creative process. We are currently considering using a voice-over to show the inner turmoil of the main character, in 'Trappedinfreedom' (Dir. Moh Azima) a voice-over is used in a similar way to chronicle an urban loser's loosening grip on reality.
With our ideas we've taken inspiration from the mini action montages from the film Shaun of Dead. We like the fact that these montages are able to create a sense of hyped up action about normal everyday things. This will also help fasten the pace of the piece, and increase the character's desperation.
The film will follow the character (Jim) through everything he does to distract himself from the work he desperately needs to do; going to HMV, selling his trampoline, eating toast, drinking copious amounts of coffee and other everyday happenings. As time goes on Jim's frustration builds.
